Beware of those Cowboys

Always use a Gas Safe Registered Engineer, all engineers at Hook Gas Services are Gas Safe Registered, which means they have been checked to make sure they are competent and qualified, to work safety and legally with gas in your home.

Don’t be tempted to use cold callers offering to carry out work in your area, there are many programmes on TV that highlight the dangers of doing this, and potentially they will not be legally covered to carry out gas work and may end up ripping you off.

Always ask to see the engineers ID card, please don’t be afraid to do this, all Gas Safe registered engineers always carry their ID and will be expecting to show it to you. The ID card shows you what they look like, and on the revise of the card it shows you what work they are qualified to do. It will also give you their unique licence number that you can check with Gas Safe is still registered.

If you are in any doubt about an engineer that carry’s out work at your property you can call 0800 408 5500 and quote the unique licence number on the engineers ID card, or you can check via the Gas Safe website here.

Reputable companies will never ask you to pay in full upfront, please don’t do so unless you have the companies address and contact details, and they are prepared to give you a signed receipt. If you do pay upfront, always pay by cheque so that you have proof.

Always get a quote in writing for the work that is being carried out and agreed, so that you don’t end up paying for work that wasn’t on the original schedule of work.

Don’t forget to check the price they are quoting you, is that an estimate or the full amount, please don’t get stung by the price going up and up!!

Lastly, there are many reputable companies out there, and Hook Gas Services is one of them, that would be happy to help with any gas work you need carried out if we can.
